Talking about wholes can be fascinating. If you begin from where you are, the first whole to consider might be you. The usual idea of the whole of you as a person is your mind, body, and spirit. If you wanted to get into smaller wholes within you, you could look at our organ systems, like your nervous system, and then the individual cells, like a nerve cell. Going even smaller you could look at organelles in the cell, like the mitochondria or cell nuclei. There is no end to how small a whole you could choose to examine.
What if you went the other way and considered the biggest whole – the Ultimate Whole? From you as a person, you could enlarge to your immediate family. Then you would expand to your community with extended family, friends and neighbors. Then on to the city you live in. Then to the nation, then to the world, then to the solar system, then to the galaxy, then to the universe. That would be the ultimate whole, along with infinity, Nature, or God. The Ultimate Whole then is indeed something ultimate like God or Nature or the Universe.
Perhaps this is the reason you end up being holy and healthy when you keep the whole in mind. But how does this translate into practical use in your daily life? One way is to consider that whatever you do or whatever happens in your life follows some inherent order. The Christians might call this God’s will. To have all the good things in life, good Christians tune into this divine order. To avoid any religious debates, I have used nature to focus on a natural order. The 5 Natural Success principles illustrate this order. When you apply these principles properly, you have the keys to achieve health and happiness.
When you keep the Whole in mind, one of the five principles, you must deal with the invisible. Any universal order is not readily visible. The invisible encompasses many things. While what is visible is finite, what is invisible is infinite. There is more that we don’t see than what we do see. The reason I don’t talk much about spirit is that it is invisible and not easy to talk about. Spirit suggests an energy or force that embodies things. It is easier to think of living things as having spirit, but everything has some form of spirit. If God is everything, then He is within everything. The great challenge is seeing this underlying spirit or order operate everywhere in your life. It is like watching a flower bloom. There are certain phases of its unfoldment, a finale to its development and then a new cycle begins with new seed.
Keeping the Whole in mind is love because paying attention to anything causes it to flourish. The more things you keep in mind, the more sensitive you are to others and your environment.
Keeping the Whole in mind means there is indeed something greater than us. Although I usually encourage clients to live life as if they are totally in control, I also say that if it doesn’t turn out how they wanted, they must humbly submit to all that is greater. As you tune into and become more like God or Nature, you become more and more powerful. It is presumptuous to think that we would ever achieve the stature of Christ or Buddha. But what is life worth if we don’t try?
