A time may come in your life when you don’t have a love partner. This can result from the death of a spouse or the breakup of a relationship. During these times, you face being alone more and it can be tough.
The first lesson of being alone is to look at how much you depend on having a partner for your happiness. How is it that you have to have someone else in your life in order to be happy? You then get a chance to look at what makes you happy just being by yourself. This is wonderful because you have an opportunity to really get to know yourself.
The best and only way to really know yourself is to spend time by yourself. You obviously can’t do this when other people are around. If you really allow time for yourself, you will discover parts of yourself that you would never have imagined. Who you are is not at all who you think you are. Your ideas about yourself may be fairly accurate and apply for all practical purposes, but they still fall short of all that you are. You are “more than words could ever say”. You are capable of much more than you think. Therefore, if you want greatness and you can’t spend time with great people, tune into your own greatness by being with yourself.
You’ll find happiness within and you’ll never lose it once you make that connection. It’s like riding a bicycle. If you haven’t ridden for a while, you may need a little practice to get up to speed, but the hardest part, staying up on the bike, should be easy. Of course, the ironic and wonderful benefit of being happy with yourself, is that you then become more attractive to others. Most of us would rather be with a happy person than with a sad person. When you have enough happiness within yourself, you will have more opportunities to share it with others.
Being alone truly gives you avenues for discovery. You will find what you need to do in this phase of your life. You get to look at what you may need to learn. You get to focus on what requires more personal growth. You see how to better care for yourself. Best of all, the greatest discovery, while you are alone, is to realize that you are never really alone!
